Toolbox

"I like hats." That's what Donald said the day before he killed Sally. Looking back he remembered the day very clearly. It wasn't a very special day but it was the day before his life changed completely. He had been talking to his friend Mike and a lady with a very large hat walked by. The hat looked to be made of a straw like material it had been painted blue and had a huge black feather on the side of it. "Just not that hat." he finished

"Well you must not have any taste in hats then," Mike teased. "Because that hat is amazing."

"Yeah I guess," Donald replied. He was skating on thin ice- that's all I can say. I hate it when people tease me about stupid things like that. What does it matter if I have good taste in hats or not? I think Mike could tell I was a little unhappy because his reply was simply forget it it's a stupid hat any way.

I left not to long after that to go and pick my parents up from the airport they had spent two weeks in Miami and they were supposed to get back at two o' clock that day. The plane ended up being two hour late. I sat in the air port waiting for them because I had nothing better to do. When they finally had gotten off the plane a found they're luggage they told me how much they had missed me and that they wished I had gotten to go, I didn't get to go because they said that school was much more important then a vacation ,but honestly I think they were glad I hadn't been able to go.

We reached home at around 5 o' clock and my little sister ,who had started taking up a lot of bad habits while my parents were gone, was happy to get several gifts from there vacation. They would always bring back things for us like they were trying to apologize for not actually taking us where ever they went. My parents traveled a lot so me and my sister were pretty used to this.

The next morning was the same as usual, I woke up, ate breakfast and went to pick Sally up and take her to school. Sally was my girlfriend, we went to school together but didn't have any of the same classes because I was a year older than her. When I got to her house she came out side in a bright yellow sun dress and I could see and rip in the back of it and she turned around to lock the door.

  "Hello, Donald," she said.

"Hey, Sally. Um I think there's a rip in the back of your dress." She turned to look.

"Oh," She said. "You're right, I'll be right back let me go change."

"Wait we're going to be late. Come on it's not very noticeable you'll be fine." She reach for the handle to get out of the car. I grabbed her hand to try and keep her there so we could leave.

"Let go of me!" She screamed. I let go and I could see red marks on her wrists.

  "I, I'm so sorry I didn't mean-"

"No I'm sure you didn't mean to be you did!" She pushed my shoulder then ran out of the car. I got out of the car to follow her. buy the time I reached the front door she was in the kitchen. "Get out! Get away from me!" She grabbed a knife trembling she looked so scared.

"I'm not going to hurt you, Sally put down the knife," I said softly trying not to scare, and praying to god she didn't do anything stupid with that knife. I walked toward her, she backed up until she hit a wall. I kept going when I reached her I tried to pry the knife from her hands. I got a hold of the handle and yanked trying to get it all the way away from her. When I finally got the knife and began backing up she ran at me. She tripped on the power chord of the toaster. I put my hands up to try and catch her she fell into me, into the knife.

There was blood every where, I din't know what to do. She was still alive but not by much. I sat down by her and held her head and just kept repeating that I was sorry over and over again. I don't think it helped but I didn't know what else to do.
